I personally own a Nexus 7 since release and enjoy the product greatly. Though after a while of use, I found the device to be chugging really hard in performance. Much more than it should be considering the hardware. After some time of use from many people, there have been two so far reasons that their devices have been slowing down.
1. The memory is below 3G of space
From the home screen if you slide down the status bar, tap settings, then Storage, you can see how much space is available on your device. If it's lower than 3GB, you should try clearing it up by removing content you might have loaded from a PC or applications.
2. Disable Google Currents auto sync
From the home screen open the Apps list, then open the Currents app. Tap the menu button in the top right corner, then tap Settings, then uncheck the "Enable background sync" option. I had this enabled on my device previously, and after disabling it my performance skyrocket back to how it was when I originally got it.
So far these are the two big victims of causing this device to slow down. If I find any news regarding other issues or updates to these fixes I'll be sure to post them.
